🎉 We’re Chuffed to Bits! 🎉
There’s always a mix of excitement and nerves when launching a brand-new course — and this one was no exception! With our first cohort of high school-age young people, we knew they wouldn’t hold back if the course didn’t meet their expectations… Eeek! 😅
But guess what? They smashed it ! 🙌
Over two fun-filled and engaging sessions, these 10 young people took part in our brand-new Food Hygiene & Safety Course — part of a larger 10-week community cookery programme focused on employability skills. And we’re so proud to announce that all 10 participants passed their Level 1 Food Hygiene Certificate with flying colours!
Here’s a peek at what made it such a hit:
🦠 Gross but gripping facts: Did you know there are more germs on your hands right now than there are people on the planet? Yep — that fact got everyone’s attention! Cue the handwashing activity with UV gel and torches, which had them all racing back to the sinks, loudly singing Happy Birthday as they scrubbed their hands clean.
🐛 Pest patrol: We explored how to identify pests, food hazards, contamination, allergens, and much much more . . .
🎲 Board game battle: By session two, it was game on! Our Food Hygiene & Safety board game had two teams going head-to-head, answering revision questions and competing to be crowned the winners.
📈 Online assessment success: The big finale — and they ALL passed with flying colours!
We can’t wait to see this brilliant group at their award ceremony in February, where they’ll be showing off their new skills by cooking for us all in a real, working restaurant. Oh, and we might just have a little surprise in store for them too… 🤫 Watch this space!
