Position Overview:

As an Employment and Skills Mentor, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of people facing barriers to employment by supporting them in achieving their career goals and aspirations. By taking a person-centred approach, you will work closely with mentees to understand their unique needs and aspirations and provide tailored support to help them reach their goals.

In this role, you will engage in partnerships with funding partners, community organisations, and employers, building relationships and promoting the skills and qualifications of mentees. You will also provide mentoring support, helping individuals to develop the skills and confidence they need to secure sustainable employment.

Your experience and skills in working with mentees and supporting their career development will be crucial in making this role a success. You will have a passion for helping others, a strong commitment to working in a person-centred way, and the ability to build strong, supportive relationships with mentees, funding partners, community organisations, and employers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mentor individuals to develop the skills and confidence needed to secure and retain employment using a person-centred approach.
  • Provide guidance and support to mentees throughout the job search process, including CV writing and interview preparation, all tailored to their personal aspirations and goals.
  • Support mentees in identifying potential barriers to their well-being and work with them to create strategies to overcome these challenges. Encourage self-care and the adoption of healthy habits to support their physical and mental health.
  • Engage with funding partners to secure funding for person-centred employment and skills programs.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of mentee progress and achievements, to be used for reporting purposes.
  • Build relationships with community organisations and employers to identify and connect individuals with job opportunities that align with their personal aspirations and goals.
  • Build employer relationships to identify job opportunities that align with mentees’ personal aspirations and promote the skills and qualifications of mentees.
  • Represent Beanstalk in local network groups, promoting the organisation and its programs to potential partners and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to developing Beanstalk’s Employment and Skills Mentoring program, making recommendations for continuous improvement and sustainability.
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions for mentees to build their skills in job search, career development, and personal development.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of local job market trends and the community’s needs, sharing insights with the team to inform program development and service delivery.

Essential criteria

  • Be passionate about Beanstalk’s vision and mission, as well as being aligned with our values.
  • A passion for helping individuals overcome barriers to employment and achieve their career goals and aspirations.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in person-centred employment and skills development
  • Strong ability to build relationships and engage with funding partners, community organisations, employers, and mentees.
  • Proven experience mentoring and supporting individuals in achieving their career goals and aspirations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to track and report on program progress.
  • Strong understanding of the local job market and current employment trends.
  • An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for this position, but don’t worry if you don’t already have one as we are happy to support you in obtaining it.
