A BIG thank you to The Arnold Clark Community

We are sending a BIG thank you to The Arnold Clark Community Fund for giving us £1000 funding towards IT equipment and taking us a step closer to offering work placement opportunities. Arnold Clark has been helping UK charities and local community groups to continue their charitable and community purposes during a challenging time following the COVID-19 pandemic. By accessing this fund, we can invest in computer equipment that can be used by two individuals at any one time to access our programs. Our programs involve building person-centric training strategies, where individuals can become accustomed to the world of work in an inclusive and empowering environment. Focusing on employability skills, motivation, and building the confidence needed to succeed, the pastoral support and work experience opportunities are ideal for people experiencing barriers to employment and training. Our ultimate ambition is to open a Lancashire Business Centre offering business support to the local start-ups, not-for-profits, and small businesses that form the backbone of our local community. As they become sustainable, the work experience opportunities will grow and so will the employment opportunities. 26.9% of the inhabitants of Lancashire are currently missing out on the positive impact that accessing training and employment can have. It has been shown time and time that accessing support to gain employment is a life-changing experience as it creates less resilience on welfare, alleviates loneliness, mental health issues, and poverty, and puts them on a path to sustainable employment. Anyone who has been out of work, or left education without the work experience that they need can find returning to or starting work intimidating. Beanstalk Business Support is thankful to Arnold Clark for their grant which will help us to give those in our community who are unemployed, out of education and training, or anyone else looking to return to the workforce a strong and supportive chance. #ArnoldClarkCommunityFund

I took the university route rather than doing an apprenticeship!

It’s national apprenticeship week, and you probably wonder what I have to say about apprentices! During high school, there were so many decisions; what career did I want, what subjects should I focus on, should I do a university course or an apprenticeship, and should I do a gap year? The list is endless and quite overwhelming for a 16year old! So, I followed my family’s encouragement to go to university, and I loved it! I met many interesting characters; some have become lifelong friends. I learned valuable life skills from living away from home that helped me be super independent. I also got the chance to study for a year in China. What an immense experience! I became knowledgeable in my chosen subject – International Business and Management. My time at university was an experience like no other . . . but was it worth approx. £45k in student debt? I often wonder if I should have followed an apprenticeship pathway instead. I would probably have still made some lifelong friends. I would still specialise in a specific subject area /job role. I would still achieve my degree – but with on-the-job experience to enrich it. The biggy for me with apprenticeships (and this is the same amongst my peers) is that I would have been earning while I was learning and NO student debt! Do I look back and wonder if I should have done things differently? Yes, of course – especially when I see this ‘student-tax’ coming out of my pay packet each month. But in all fairness, it was such an immeasurable experience going to university with many unforgettable memories – that I don’t have any regrets. My advice to any 16year old having to make these overwhelming life choices is to decide what is important to you at this point in your life and go with it, embrace it, and don’t look back. #nationalapprenticeshipweek2022

Beanstalk enjoyed an evening at the SELNET Awards.

Social Enterprise Lancashire Network (SELNET) has been driving community interest companies since 2005 and represents the interests of social businesses at all levels. We are proud to say that we were shortlisted for the Start-up Social Enterprise award. Walking up the red carpet, enjoying a delicious meal, and of course, a little bit of live entertainment made the evening one to remember. Although we did not make it to the best of the best on this occasion, we met some amazing enterprises and listened to the projects currently thriving in the Lancashire area. To be shortlisted among such groups was an honour and lets us know that we are achieving our ambition of supporting people and businesses for good. As a seedling at the moment, we will look after Beanstalk Business Support in the same way we do our clients. By encouraging the seed to grow and providing it with the tailored support and attention it needs, we will be sprouting out into the other potential awards next year. It was clear that the passion and enthusiasm for helping others dominated the room. Being a part of these organisations, businesses, and companies has given us more ideas for going forward, more knowledge of the gaps in communities, and the barriers communities face when looking for a way back into work or training. With this knowledge in mind, we look forward to meeting some of those gaps and believing in a North West that is full of growth and sustainability. Watch this space for our future endeavours. Until then, congratulations to Natalie @TeamCANW, Tony @SESCICUK, Jessica @RenaissanceDLL, @RLCharity, Equalities and Justice Northwest, @BrewMeSunshine, @AtTheGrange, @Calico_Group, @DivineDaysUK and Growing Resilience CIC for awards well won, and everyone who were shortlisted for a Social Enterprise of the Year Award 2021!

SELNET Newsletter Article – October 2021

The recent arrival of Beanstalk Business Support CIC, a new organisation, established back in June this year, is delighted to be partnering up with Myerscough College to support on the Ag Net Zero Challenge. Beanstalk is looking forward to supporting project compliance, undertaking future bidding/tender opportunities, and taking an active approach to marketing the project. In addition, the collection of data, administrative duties, and organizing meetings will be another significant part of this opportunity. The Myerscough College Ag Net Zero Challenge is a program that helps farmers reduce their carbon emissions, and it also coaches young people and adults about sustainable farming practices. The goal of this initiative is to help the Government’s plan to become carbon neutral by 2050. “We enthusiastically and actively seek to support organisations whose purpose benefits the environment, so we are really pleased to be supporting Myerscough College in their Ag Net Zero Challenge” Says Kerry Stevens, Founder and Director of Beanstalk Business Support. Beanstalk Business Support CIC is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to make a difference, benefit society, and positively impact communities. Beanstalk provides business support and training to help start-ups, not-for-profit organisations, self-employed, and SMEs manage their businesses to become stronger, sustainable, and profitable. “I’m delighted that we’re working with the team at Beanstalk Business Support. They offer a unique approach to employer engagement and an innovative one for working with the wider community. They work closely on projects to gain a deeper understanding of what’s needed.” Says Andrea Gardner, Head of Agricultural Projects, Myerscough College. At the beginning of Beanstalk’s journey, the team found that there were many not-for-profit organizations and small business owners, who are experts in their fields, but juggle lots of administrative duties. Beanstalk helps businesses to stay on task by taking care of their administration for them. “Small local businesses are an integral part of any community – inspiring pride in residents, securing strong community bonds and creating a thriving local economy with local jobs. So, when we see our small businesses flourish, it’s a win/win for everyone,” says Kerry. Beanstalk Business Support offers a wide range of services to help you get the most out of your business. You can find more information about them at www.beanstalkbusiness.co.uk, and they are always happy to chat!

Message from our Director

I’m incredibly proud of team Beanstalk. Our journey started in June 2021, when we recognised that many not-for-profit organisations and small business owners were constantly striving for results while juggling everything else. So we established Beanstalk to help organisations regain their sense of focus and keep doing their best work with one less thing to worry about! Here at Beanstalk, we are focused on removing barriers to employment, not only by supporting businesses so they can keep providing essential jobs, but by also offering work experience opportunities within our organisation. We are building a wonderful team who are advocates of Beanstalk’s values that give everyone a sense of feeling respected and valued and we are creating a culture where everybody can unleash their greatness and those around them. Beanstalk aims to make a difference, benefit society, and positively impact communities. The communities we live in have lots of character and are unique. They provide an individuality that reflects the town’s personality. This makes it very special for people who work or own businesses to call their local community home. Business owners and employees usually live within their communities because they want to contribute positively by adding jobs locally while maintaining solid bonds. So, when we see our small businesses flourish, it’s a win/win for everyone. It is an exciting time to launch Beanstalk Business Support CIC, and we can’t wait to help build strong, healthy businesses and strong, healthy communities. We can’t wait to see where this next year and beyond will take us . . . Kerry Stevens Director
